KJCCC SELECTS ALLEN AS MEN'S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Coming off a career-high 30-point night, Hutchinson Community College freshman guard Kadeem Allen earned Jayhawk Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors, sharing the honor with Seward County's Kaheem Ransom,

Playing one guard short for the foreseeable future, Allen picked up the slack in two victories last week for the No. 2 Blue Dragons last week.

The 6-foot-3 guard from Wilmington, N.C., hit several big shots late and scored 14 points with seven rebounds as Hutchinson outlasted Garden City in the Jayhawk West home opener on Jan. 7.

Then in a key road contest at Butler last Wednesday, Allen poured in a career-high 30 points with six rebounds and six assists to power the Blue Dragons to a 14-point victory against the Grizzlies.

For the week, Allen averaged 22 points per game; shooting 50.0 percent from the field overall and 3-point range (4-8). He also averages 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per game.

This is the third Jayhawk Conference weekly honor for Allen and the fifth overall for the Blue Dragons in 2012-13.

Allen is now eligible for NJCAA National Player of the Week honors. That award will be announced on Wednesday.
