January 16, 2013Day two of the Hillsboro Classic opened with the Wamego Red Raiders, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A this week by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association taking a 68-23 win from the Goodland Cowboys.
Wamego held Goodland to just six points in the second half, and was led by senior Brady Hemphil with seven of 10 shooting and 18 points. Senior Isaac Poe finished with 12 points and eight boards. Junior Tayden Smith pumped in 10 points and had 10 rebounds for the Cowboys
Girls action saw the Republic County Buffaloes taking a 46-32 loss from the Goodland Cowgirls. Senior Abbey Anderson with 20 points and five rebounds led the scoring for the lady Buffaloes. Paige Phillips managed 11 points and four rebounds for the Cowgirls.
More boys action followed, and this one was a tight one as Republic County took a 46-42 win from Hillsboro. Trenton Kuhlman with 14 and four along with Jeff Hadachek with 10 points led scoring for Republic County. Brett Weinbrenner had 16 and Shaq Thiessen 11 for the Trojans of Hillsboro.
The last girls game went quick, with a running clock as Hillsboro defeated Thomas More Prep girls 65-25 as Maci Schlehuber, Addie Lackey and Tena Lowen were all in double figures for the home team. Schlehuber also had 7 rebounds.
Heather Ruder had 15 points for Thomas More Prep.
