February 4, 2013 Press Release Related Links: Complete TC Pre Season Rankings Talk about it in Softball Fort Collins, Colo. - Officials announced the preseason polls for the 2013 TC/National Softball Rankings today, with the So Cal Athletics (No.1) from Ontario, Calif., and the Worth Firecrackers (No. 2) from Huntington Beach, Calif., topping the list. Finishing out the top 10 include the Corona Angels (No. 3), Beverly Bandits (No. 4), Orange County Batbusters (No. 5), Texas Impact (No. 6), Gold Coast Hurricanes (No. 7), Arizona Storm (No. 8), Wichita Mustangs (No. 9), and Team North Florida (No. 10). "We are excited about the teams represented in the 2013 preseason polls," said TC/National Softball Polls Director Alyson Morgenstern. "We had great involvement from teams submitting votes and taking interest in the selection process. We welcome even more participation from new coaches and teams moving forward." The Selection Process The overall rankings are determined by combining three categories: Top Programs Poll, the 2012 National Point System (NPS), and the College Point Index (CPI). Top Programs Poll is a subjective vote sent to over 2000 18U fastpitch teams from across the country. NPS is an objective ranking based upon a cumulative point total recognizing results from a select few national tournaments each year. CPI is an objective poll totaling the number of signed college players on the current roster and the roster from the last four years. Each point value associated with the three components is weighted and re-calculated into the Blended Rankings. By combining the three separate systems into the Blended Ranking it allows for teams to be ranked based upon a subjective poll, voted by club coaches and media, and two rankings based upon objective criteria or points systems. This BCS-like formula is used to add validity to the TC/National Softball Rankings.
