No. 1-ranked Iowa Western slips past Tiger baseball team 2-1

Facing No. 1-ranked Iowa Western Community College Saturday in Wilburton, OK, the Cowley College baseball team battled hard in a 2-1 loss. The Tigers were also tripped up by Eastern Oklahoma State College by a score of 5-2 as their record dropped to 4-3 on the season.

In the game vs. Iowa Western, Mark Meadors (0-1) allowed only three hits and one run in four innings pitched. However, Iowa Western starter Robert Youngdahl limited Cowley to one hit over six innings and the Tigers finished with only four hits in the 2-1 defeat.

Dylan Delso singled and came around to score the Tigers' lone run on a single by Tyler Rolland in the top of the seventh inning.

Tyler Ware led Iowa Western at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double and a run batted in.

Ty Rowe relieved Meadors on the mound and allowed one run in two innings, while Seth Holman followed with two hitless innings of relief.

Sophomore Bryan McClellan (1-1) started on the mound for Cowley vs. Eastern Oklahoma and kept the Tigers in the game as he allowed only two runs in four innings pitched. McClellan struck out four and walked one.

Freshman Levi Skinner pitched the other four innings for the Tigers and allowed six hits and two earned runs.

Trailing 3-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Mike Parker doubled leading off the inning and came around to score on a RBI single by Delso.

Eastern Oklahoma increased its lead to 5-1 on a two-run homer by Riley Norton in the bottom of the seventh.

Matt Anderson's two-out double in the top of the eighth inning scored Delso with the final run of the game.

Michael Freeman earned the win for Eastern Oklahoma as he held Cowley to three hits and no runs in five innings pitched.

Parker and third baseman Ethan Elroy had two hits a piece in the defeat. Norton was one of five Eastern Oklahoma players to finish with at least two hits as the outfielder drove in three runs.

Cowley's four-game series vs. Labette has been moved to Sunday and Monday in Arkansas City. Both doubleheaders will begin at 2 p.m.
