Wichita, Kan. - Four KCAC schools are headed to the 2013 NAIA Division II Basketball National Championships. Tournaments begin March 6 and will crown a champions on March 12.


Friends (Women) and Saint Mary (Men) gain entry by winning the KCAC regular season, and will join tournament champions McPherson (Men) and Southwestern (Women).

Men (Bracket)

Saint Mary (22-8) vs. Saint Xavier (Ill.) (28-5)
Game begins at 9:45 p.m. CST, March 6 n Point Lookout, Mo.


Saint Mary finished the conference season with the best record in the KCAC, but dropped its first game in the conference tournament (McPherson). Saint Mary is led by KCAC Player of the Year Jordan Wilcox, a senior averaging 14.5 points per game, and has scored in double-digits in 14 of his last 15 games.

The Spires lost in the first round of the 2012 NAIA Tournament. This season Saint Mary will play Saint Xavier in the first round. The Cougars are led by the scoring of Brad Karp at 21.8 points per game.

McPherson (15-17) vs. William Penn (Iowa) (30-1)
Game begins at 1:45 p.m. CST, March 6 in Point Lookout, Mo.

McPherson's improbable post-season run continues, as the Bulldogs are in the national tournament for the fourth straight year. McPherson ended the regular season tied for 6th in the conference standings before upsetting the #1, #3, and #4 seeded teams in the KCAC tournament to earn a berth.

The Bulldogs are led by guard Adam Bruner, the junior averaged 18 points per game during the conference tournament. Samson Shivers averaged 17.7 points per game, and leads the team in scoring at 15.19 PPG. Kasey Miller averaged 11, and hit the game-winning shot as time expired in the semi-finals against Friends.

The Bulldogs advanced to the final four in last year's national tournament, but will face the #1 seed in William Penn in the first round this year. The Statesmen have won 16 straight games.

Women (Bracket)

Friends (23-8) v. Roosevelt (Ill.) (27-6)
Game begins at 5:15 p.m. CST, March 6 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Friends finished the season with a 16-2 conference record, best in the KCAC. The Falcons, however, lost in the conference semifinals to Kansas Wesleyan.

The Falcons are led by two All-KCAC first team members, guard Abril Marshall and forward Inekka Stevenson. Marshall led the team in scoring at11.7 points per game, while Stevenson averaged 10 with almost 5 rebounds per game.

Friends is making its second straight appearance at the national tournament, and faces off against No. 2 seeded Roosevelt in the first round. Casey Davis leads the Lakers, averaging 17 points per game.

Southwestern (23-7) v. Eastern Oregon (31-2)
Game begins at Noon CST, March 7 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Southwestern finished the conference regular season one-game behind Friends, but rolled through the tournament to receive an automatic bid. The Moundbuilders won all three-conference tournament games by an average of 14 points.

Zefiryn Bryan and Jana Reichenberger lead the team, both All-KCAC second team selections. Reichenberger had 16 points and 7 rebounds in the conference championship game, while Bryan had 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Southwestern will play against No. 2 seeded Eastern Oregon in the first round. The Mountaineers have won 25 straight games, and are led by guard Brooke Randall (15 PPG).
