Tiger baseball team outlasts NOC-Enid 13-11

In a game that featured 19 walks and seven errors, the Cowley College baseball team out-lasted Northern Oklahoma College-Enid by a score of 13-11 Wednesday in Enid, OK.

Using the game as an opportunity to get several different pitchers work on the mound, the Tigers did not throw any of its seven pitchers more than 2 innings.

Starting pitcher Garrett Hoover was tagged for six runs in the game's first two innings of play as Cowley trailed 6-4 heading into the third inning.

Cowley would rally to grab the lead with a run in the third inning and three more in the fourth. Matt Anderson's two-run single put Cowley on top 8-6.

However, NOC scored a run off Tiger reliever Juan Guerra in the bottom of the fourth inning and after another two-run single by Anderson in a three-run fifth inning, the Jets scored four runs off Tiger sophomore Lane Trudo in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 11-11. NOC had only one hit in the inning but benefited from three walks and an error.

Cowley broke the tie in the sixth inning as Brett Beasley doubled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a two-out single by sophomore first baseman Mike Parker.

The Tigers would add an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning as Cory Linn drew a two-out walk and following a walk to Matt Anderson came around to score on a run scoring single by pinch hitter Cris Roman.

Seth Holman pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn the save for the Tigers. Freshman Alex Graham (1-0) earned the win by retiring all four batters he faced.

Tyler Day followed Graham on the mound and retired all six batters he faced, while pitching a scoreless seventh and eighth inning. Graham, Day and Holman combined to retire the final 13 NOC batters of the game.

Cowley is now 9-3 on the season, while NOC drops to 4-9. Zach Bradford took the loss for NOC as he allowed seven hits and two runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Anderson had three of Cowley's 12 hits in the game as he went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. Parker added two hits and a pair of runs scored as nine Tigers had hits in the win.

NOC first baseman Korbin Polston went 1-for-5 with five RBIs in the defeat.

Cowley's four-game series vs. Highland has been moved up a day and will have doubleheaders played Friday and Saturday in Arkansas City at 2 p.m. The Scotties are 1-4 on the season.
