Instead of playing six games at the Midwest JUCO Classic in Bixby, OK, rain limited the No. 3-ranked Cowley College softball team to two games on Saturday. The Lady Tigers came back from a 4-3 loss to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in the opener to defeat Angelina College (TX) 8-4 on a walk-off grand slam by sophomore Colby Dresher in the bottom of the eighth inning.

In game one, Cowley faced a NEO squad that is ranked sixth in NJCAA Division I.

Lady Tiger sophomore Haley Strawn led off the game with a home run and Cowley got run scoring singles from Austen Hilt and Caitlyn Cosme in the top of the third inning to lead 3-2.

However, NEO struck for two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning as they regained a 4-3 lead.

Cowley threatened in its final at bat, putting a runner at third base with only one out. Unfortunately, Laura Seemann struck out and Hilt flew out to end the game.

Sophomore Keelyn Bonar (6-2) took the loss as she allowed 10 hits and four runs in six innings pitched.

Cosme and freshman Stephanie Couser had two hits a piece in the defeat.

Against Angelina, Cowley led 3-1 before Hannah Coker hit a game-tying two-run homer off Lady Tiger pitcher Jessica Seay with one out in the top of the sixth inning.

With the score tied 3-3; Angelina scratched a run across in the top of the eighth inning to lead 4-3. Cowley answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning and had the bases loaded with two outs when Dresher stepped to the plate. The right-handed hitting first baseman crushed her second home run of the season to win the game for the Tigers.

Cowley is now 15-4 after splitting the two games on Saturday.

"It was good to beat a team from Texas and I thought we competed really well against NEO," Cowley head coach Ed Hargrove said. "I thought we were right there against NEO, we just didn't quite get it done."

Dresher went 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the win, while Seemann went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Freshman Rondeci Oliver also played well and went 2-for-3, while Cosme went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored. The home run by Cosme was her team-leading fourth of the season.

Seay earned the win by scattering four hits over eighth innings. Seay is now 8-0 on the season.

Cowley will now travel to Manhattan to face the Kansas State University Club team Tuesday at 4 p.m.

"With it being a non-league game we will use this as a chance to get a lot of people playing time," Hargrove said.
