Tiger baseball team makes it 10 wins in a row

Showing discipline at the plate and an ability to throw strikes on the mound, the Cowley College baseball team run-ruled Northern Oklahoma College-Enid 13-2 Monday in Arkansas City.

The victory for the Tigers was their 10th in a row and improved their record to 14-3 on the season.

For the second time in six days Cowley scored 13 runs against the Jets. The Tigers started the game by drawing four consecutive walks off NOC starting pitcher Stetson Buller en route to a four-run first inning.

"We knew he had a tendency to be a little wild and we took advantage of it by showing good discipline at the plate," Cowley assistant coach Darren Burroughs said.

After the Jets answered with two runs in the top of the second inning, Cowley scored a run in the second and five more in the bottom of the third to lead 10-2. Zack Mills's two-run double highlighted the five-run inning.

Cowley would get run scoring singles from JC Sturgeon and Tyler Munger in a three-run sixth inning as they went on to the seven inning run-rule win.

Sophomore outfielder Tyler Rolland continued his solid play of late by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Rolland leads the team in batting (.422) and has 17 RBIs in 45 at bats.

"Tyler's hard work is paying off," Burroughs said. "It is a sign of his maturity."

Mills and Dylan Delso also drove in two runs a piece and Cowley out-hit NOC 11-7.

Sophomore Brent Burroughs started on the mound for Cowley and earned the win. Burroughs allowed four hits and two runs in two innings pitched.

Freshmen Alex Graham, Tyler Day and Ty Rowe followed with five scoreless innings of relief as Tiger pitchers combined to strike out three and walk none.

"Throwing strikes was the key for our pitchers," Burroughs said.

Cowley's originally scheduled home game vs. Butler on Wednesday has been cancelled. Instead, the Tigers will play a nine-inning game at Oklahoma Wesleyan in Bartlesville, OK Wednesday at 6 p.m.
