October 10, 2013LADY DRAGONS REBOUND FOR ROAD SWEEP OF SEWARD COUNTY
LIBERAL - All-American Teresa Wade posted her ninth double-double and hit better than .400 for the second time this season as the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team rebounded from Monday's stunning loss at Cloud County with a 3-0 Jayhawk West victory at Seward County on Wednesday night.
Hutchinson defeated Seward County 25-22, 26-24, 25-18 to complete a regular-season sweep of the Saints (17-12, 7-3 Jayhawk West).
The Lady Dragons made the switch to a 5-1 offense on Wednesday night.
Wade tied a season high with 17 kills and no attack errors on 40 attempts to hit .425 to lead the Lady Dragons (16-7, 9-2 Jayhawk West). Wade added 14 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.
Sophomore Dragana Micic finished with 10 kills and had a career-high 16 digs for her first career double-double. It was the first time all season that Micic played all six rotations.
Freshman Nicole Kinser hit .333 with nine kills on 21 swings and five blocks out of the middle. Sophomore Mariah Dickson had a season-high five kills on .357 hitting.
Running the 5-1 for the first time, freshman setter Alex Keller had a season-high 35 set assists. Sophomore libero Samantha Lackey had 12 digs.
Hutchinson had nine team blocks and four ace serves.
The Lady Dragons trailed most of the first set, falling behind by as many as five points. But unlike Monday night, HCC rallied and overtook the Saints at 18-17.
Weekend schedule change - Because Wallace State had to bow out of this weekend's Missouri State University-West Plains Invitational, the Lady Dragons lost one match and will now play only three in West Plains.
HCC's revised weekend schedule is: Noon, Friday vs. Jefferson College; 4 p.m., Friday vs. Colby; Noon, Saturday vs. Missouri State University-West Plains.
Match notes - In two matches vs. Seward County, HCC's Nicole Kinser has 20 kills on 36 swings and a .444 hitting percentage with nine blocks. Teresa Wade has 21 career double-doubles. With Colby's 3-1 victory vs. Pratt on Wednesday, the Lady Dragons remain one-half game out of first place in the Jayhawk West behind Colby.
