Hutch women hit the road
LADY DRAGONS BACK ON THE ROAD TO FACE BARTON ON WEDNESDAY
The No. 3 Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team closes out a two-game Jayhawk West road trip when the Lady Dragons play Barton on Wednesday in Great Bend.
Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Barton Gym. The game will be videostreamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network and broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 5:20 p.m.
Hutchinson's road trip started with an 83-63 victory on Saturday night at Pratt.
Under head coach John Ontjes, HCC (19-0, 5-0 Jayhawk West) has had great success in back-to-back Jayhawk West road games. HCC is 10-2 overall under Ontjes in back-to-back league road games. The Lady Dragons have won five-straight back halves of such road trips, which is the scenario they face on Wednesday.
Sophomores Jamie Patrick and Jen'Von'Ta Hill combined for 48 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in HCC's victory at Pratt. The Lady Dragons shot better than 50 percent for the fourth time in five league games.
Barton (15-6, 3-2) snapped a two-game losing streak on Sunday when the Cougars defeated Colby 82-47 at Colby.
The Cougars have two of the Top 15 scorers in the Jayhawk West. Cheyenne Hedrington is fifth in scoring at 16.6 points per game and Ashton Bruner ranks 15th at 11.6 points per game.
The Lady Dragons look to extend an eight-game win streak over Barton.
Noting The Lady Dragons
+ Hutchinson has shot better than 50 percent four times in five Jayhawk West games and nine times overall this season.
+ Overall, HCC ranks third in the Jayhawk West in scoring average at 81.4 points per game. The Lady Dragons have taken over the top spot in field-goal shooting at HCC is shooting 46.6 percent. , HCC is shooting 34.4 percent from 3-point range (2nd in West) and 65.3 percent from the foul line (5th in West).

+ Freshman Kalani Purcell is second on the team and is ninth in the Jayhawk West in scoring at 12.1 points per game. Purcell is shooting 47.8 percent from the field. She leads the team and ranks third in the West in rebounding at 9.53 boards per game. Purcell leads the league and is 13th in the NJCAA in steals (3.79/game) and is fourth in blocks (1.21/game). Purcell is seventh in the conference in assists at 3.32/game. In conference play, Purcell is averaging 12.6 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.60 steals per game.
+ Over her last three games, sophomore point guard Jen'Von'Ta Hill is averaging 21.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 4.0 steals per game. For the season, Hill is scoring 10.9 points per game. She is shooting 36.5 percent overall, 25.0 percent from 3-point range and 63.6 percent from the foul line. Hill leads the league in assists at 6.05 per game (11th in NJCAA) and is ranked fifth in steals at 2.89 per game.
+ Sophomore Kiarra Jones is third in the Jayhawk West in field-goal percentage at 56.0 percent. She averaging 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Jones is averaging 6.6 points and 4.0 rebounds in the Jayhawk West.
+ Sophomore Briana Starks is averaging 8.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. She is averaging 10.8 points and 6.4 rebounds while shooting 52.8 percent in conference play.
+ Freshman Shakira Harding has been quiet offensively of late. She averages of 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Harding is scoring 3.6 points per game in league play.
+ Freshman Chelsea Dewey is averaging 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists off the bench.
+ The Lady Dragons are second in rebounding in the Jayhawk West at 50.4 rebounds per game. They have 12 games of 50 or more rebounds this season, which includes a season-high 61 rebounds against Mesa. HCC also leads the league in rebounding margin at plus-18.4. HCC allows 32.8 rebounds per contest.

The Lady Dragons are 14-23 in Hutchinson and 11-27 in Great Bend. HCC is 1-4 vs. Barton in Region VI meetings. The last postseason meeting between Hutchinson and Barton came in 1987.
Last season, the Lady Dragons scored 104 points against Barton, the most for the Lady Dragons in series history.
