HUTCH NIGHT RELAYS SET FOR SATURDAY AT GOWANS STADIUM
Blue Dragon fans will get their only chance of the season to see the Hutchinson Community College men's and women's track and field teams at home on Saturday when the Hutch Night Relays begins at Noon with the hammer throw.
Seven teams are scheduled to compete in the 2014 Night Relays, revived in 2007 with the completed renovation of Gowans Stadium.
The men's and women's hammer throw begins at noon at the Kansas State Fairgrounds with field events at Gowans Stadium getting underway at 1 p.m. and running events at 3 p.m.
All running events will be videostreamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 3 p.m.
So far in the 2014 outdoor season, the Blue Dragons have garnered eight men's national qualifiers and three women's national qualifiers.
All-American sophomore Jake Brinkman is the highest-ranked Blue Dragon men's athlete currently in the NJCAA, ranking third in the nation in the javelin with a throw of 211 feet, 7 inches. The top Lady Dragon athlete is Kanedra Lee, who's is fourth in the triple jump at 39-7 3/4.
Other HCC athletes who are qualifiers and their national rankings are:
+ Orbelin Rojas in 10,000 meters (8th in 32:57.20); 5,000 meters (21st in 15:34.35).
+ John Murphy III in 5,000 meters (24th in 15:37.95).
+ Men's 4x100 meter relay (14th in 41.96).
+ Men's 4x800 meter relay (8th in 7:55.45).
+ Andrew Pope in pole vault (7th at 15-7).
+ Brenner Wells in javelin (6th in 184-0).
+ Nicole Kinser in long jump (T16th 18-1 3/4).
+ Kanedra Lee in long jump (T16th at 18-1 3/4).

1 p.m. - Men's Javelin-followed by Women - At Throwing Field on campus
