I caught the first game of a double header Monday night at Douglass between the hosts and Medicine Lodge.
Actually I was there to look at a couple young pitchers, Morgan Myers from Medicine Lodge who has verbally committed to Pittsburg State this season as a junior, and a freshman Lexi Sanborn from Douglass who shows potential.
While both pitchers were in control of the majority of their pitches, the game turned into one of those affairs of who could make the least amount of errors, and that went to Douglass, who eventually won the first game 10-9. Myers did hit a pair of homers though showing some pop in her bat. One opposite field over the right field fence, and one almost straight away center.
On the gun, Myers topped out at 61, with a wicked 39-41 mph change that kept Douglass hitters either missing or popping up. Sanborn was consistently around 56-57, and Myers outside curve at 57-59 was hard to hit as well.
I took off the second game and caught some of a baseball game at Rose Hill however, Douglass took the sweep with a 7-1 win in that one also. Douglass is now 14-2
Staying in the league Cheney defeated Independent 19-0 and 24-4 to sweep.
Moving up a couple classes, Maize girls were in a couple tough ones, with future LSU outfielder Emily Griggs tossing a line drive to home from center to nail the tying run at the plate in the seventh with Salina South as the Eagles took 5-4 and 4-3 games in Division I.
Game one saw each team with three hits and game two saw a total of 13 hits combined.
Sophomore Kinzie Young hit another inside the park homer for Derby as the Lady Panthers swept Salina Central twice for their sixth straight win.
That's all we got for tonight so far. IF anything happens on your end, please add it to the message board.
