SEVERE WEATHER FORCES POSTPONEMENT OF HUTCH-COWLEY REGIONAL GAME
WICHITA - Saturday's severe storms that continually rolled through Wichita on Saturday put a halt to play on Saturday at the Region VI/Central District Tournament at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The Hutchinson Community College baseball team had its winner's bracket semifinal scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday to be moved to Sunday morning at 10:30.
Hutchinson will be forced to play two games on Sunday. If the Blue Dragons defeat Cowley, they will play the Kansas City/Garden City winner at 7:30 p.m. in the winner's bracket final. If the Dragons fall against Cowley, they will play top-seeded Johnson County at 4:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
When the severe weather moved in on Saturday night, Kansas City led Garden City 12-5 with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Already with a 38-minute weather delay, the game didn't resume after a second delay and play was suspended two hours later.
Sunday's adjusted schedule is:
9 a.m. - Completion of Kansas City/Garden City game
10:30 p.m. - Hutchinson vs. Cowley, winner's bracket semifinal
1:30 p.m. - Seward County vs. Kansas City/Garden City loser
4:30 p.m. - Johnson County vs. Hutchinson/Cowley loser
7:30 p.m. - Kansas City/Garden City winner vs. Hutchinson/Cowley winner
There is a 50 percent chance of rain for Sunday. If the schedule changes further, follow updates on Blue Dragon Athletics' Twitter page @bluedragonsport.
