Colorado State scores three-star guard
Colorado State over the weekend, three-star guard Anthony Bonner had a pretty good feeling about the Rams. Before he took his visit to
After spending the weekend in Fort Collins, Bonner decided to end things on Monday and the 6-foot-2 rising senior from Lawrence (Kan.) High gave Larry Eustachy and his staff a verbal commitment.
"It feels really good," Bonner told Rivals.com. "I'm really excited about it. Especially because I found the right place for me and my family and I really feel like it's the right fit and I connect with the coaching staff so I'm excited about it."
Bonner accepted that no matter what program he picked, there would be a little bit of homesickness. With that in mind, making a personal connection with the coaching staff, players and people around town was a big key in deciding Colorado State was the right fit.
"The location is really nice it is a beautiful place and the people are good and genuine people," said Bonner. "I feel like anywhere I go I'll miss home. But, there it will be an easier transition, especially with the coaching staff making me feel like family."
The last time Colorado State pulled a player out of Lawrence High it worked out pretty well for them. Dorian Green was a product of Bonner's high school and though Green has moved on to an assistant coaching position at Furman, the relationship Bonner and his family have with Green and his helped the Rams.
"He knew I probably wouldn't go to Furman but he and his dad helped me out a lot with what to expect," said Bonner. "They helped me to feel even more comfortable."
Capable of playing as either a point or off the ball as a scorer, Bonner is a good jump shooter and sneaky transition athlete. He brings a strong work ethic and is ready to show what he can do.
"I've got to put on some weight and get my body ready for the college level because they are a lot bigger," said Bonner. "I think I bring a great point guard mentality and I can score the ball and also distribute to my teammates. I just want to lead my teammates and contribute."
