There is no better place in the country for a young lady looking to achieve a college scholarship to play ball than in the Independence Day Louisville Slugger Tournament being held this week in Colorado.
However, most of the 360 colleges coaches in attendance at the tournament last summer had a specific list of players that they were going to watch so there wasn't a lot of cold prospecting going on. They knew who they were there to watch and got it done.
And most of the 247 colleges represented were NCAA Division I schools, but Div II, Div III, NAIA, and JC were also in attendance including most of your own Kansas Junior College schools.
According to the tournament web site, The 2014 tournament will run from Wednesday, July 2nd through Sunday, July 6th. The 2014 tournament will mark the 18th year for the event to be held in Boulder and the surrounding area. The event has a national tournament flavor and level of competition. This year we will have one hundred twelve 18U and forty eight 16U teams competing. Teams will represent all regions of the country, from coast to coast and border to border. One of the main objectives of the tournament is to provide participating girls an opportunity to perform for those college coaches in attendance. In 2013, 360 coaches checked in at the tournament, representing all levels of collegiate softball
Check out the web site for additional information, but a total of three tournaments will be played in the Boulder area and they have specific rules pertaining to "gold" play.
A few Kansas athletes are playing in All-Star games including the Peppers Haidyn Bassett and the Olathe Rockets Shayna Byers who are participating for their teams from the class of 2016. Mustang 16-U Taryn Antoine will represent the Class of 2017.
The Peppers also have Kara Powelson in an all star game, Class of 15, but she is from the other side of the Missouri in North Andrew.
WE have a link to the tournament in the softball message board and depending what happens with my meeting with the doctor on Tuesday, plan on providing updates and would hope for some fan support in these from those in attendance.
