ROSWELL, N.M. - The Friday euphoria of a pair of five-set victories over two Division I opponents turned into a splash of reality on Saturday as the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the seventh annual New Mexico Military Classic on Saturday. Hutchinson dropped its morning match to undefeated Yavapai in four sets 20-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-27. The Blue Dragons then close out with a five-set loss to a greatly improved South Mountain team, falling 25-17, 24-26, 21-25, 25-22, 8-15 to complete opening weekend at 2-2. The theme of Saturday were errors, both attack and serving, by the Blue Dragons. Against Yavapai, HCC averaged 13 errors per set. That number wasn't as bad against South Mountain, but the bulk of HCC's errors game in the three lost sets. Sophomore middle hitter Nicole Kinser had a big weekend with double-figure kills in each of the Blue Dragons' four matches at the NMMI Classic. On Saturday, Kinser had 32 kills to finish with 58 kills for the weekend. Against Yavapai, Kinser led the Blue Dragons with a team- and career-high 16 kills and four blocks. Kinser helped HCC to 14 team blocks in Saturday's first match. Sophomore Lauren Darby had nine kills and three service aces. Freshman Jai Chapman had six kills. Freshman Aubrey Wilson had four kills and four total blocks. Freshman Petra Silic had a team-high six blocks. Hutchinson missed an opportunity to force a fifth set, letting a 22-16 lead in the fourth set slip away. Against South Mountain, Kinser matched her career high for kills with 16 and added three blocks to lead Hutchinson. Chapman had 12 kills, two blocks and two ace serves. Darby and Silic had five kills each and Silic added six blocks. Wilson had seven kills and five blocks. The Blue Dragons will continue their nine-match road trip to open 2014 with a key dual in the 2014 Jayhawk West opener on Wednesday at Colby.
